Hair Cut

Derek cut his lovely locks off again. Somehow I have come accustomed to long hair and actually like it. Maybe its because I like to run my fingers through his long thick hair? Or it could be that I liked I calling him 'Sampson' for a while? Or possibly I imagine him as a Sandy from the O.C. in a few years? I haven't figured out why, maybe I never will. I have never met any one who is able to grow hair as fast as Derek.

Weston thoroughly enjoyed rubbing his hands on his dad's new shaved head. He even tried BITING and LICKING his head. As usual, I found it amusing so snapped some shots.

Chicken Soup with Wild Rice { A Carole King Tribute}

My sister and I grew up singing a lot of Carole King and Wee Sing songs together. Yesterday and today we received a lot of snow. I couldn't help singing " Chicken Soup with Rice" to Weston.  It so happens singing this song will make you crave Chicken Soup with Rice. So I made some today with wild rice and it was delicious!

Note: I left out the dry sherry cause I didn't have any and it still tasted great.

Ingredients:
1/2 cup butter
1 finely chopped onion
1/2 cup chopped celery
1/2 cup sliced carrots
1/2 pound fresh sliced mushrooms
3/4 cup all-purpose flour
6 cups chicken broth
2 cups cooked wild rice
1 pound boneless skinless chicken
breasts, cooked and cubed
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon curry powder
1/2 teaspoon mustard powder
1/2 teaspoon dried parsley
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 cup slivered almonds
3 tablespoons dry sherry
2 cups half-and-half
Directions:
1. Melt butter in a large saucepan over medium heat. Stir in the onion, celery and carrots and saute for 5 minutes. Add the mushrooms and saute for 2 more minutes. Then add the flour and stir well. Gradually pour in the chicken broth, stirring constantly, until all has been added. Bring just to a boil, reduce heat to low and let simmer.
2. Next, add the rice, chicken, salt, curry powder, mustard powder, parsley, ground black pepper, almonds and sherry. Allow to heat through, then pour in the half-and-half. Let simmer for 1 to 2 hours. (Note: Do not boil or your roux will break.)

Forum Blue and Gold

There was a Laker game the same weekend cousin Krew was blessed. So naturally we had to call up some friends and go.

We took the tracks

Luckily we got on the right train! Coincidentally we saw the exact same group of people on our way home too. ( Don't mind the jerk in the back who tried to ruin our picture)

We all sported our Laker gear, even the babes. It was their first game after all!

Even though they lost, we had a good weekend doing the things that are most important in life.
